Walking has been shown to lift your mood, change your mindset, help some little piece of information click into place, or to simply help you feel grounded. And there’s all sorts of research showing that being in nature and being in sunlight is really good for you. It reduces stress, relieves depression, and calms the nervous system. Both can support the mind to relax and perspective to emerge. Walk and talk therapy is particularly helpful if you’re experiencing burnout or you spend a lot of your day sitting. It can also be helpful if you find sitting eyeball to eyeball with someone intimidating. You want to talk, but you don’t want to the pressure of someone looking at you while you do so. You just need someone to listen and help you find your own answers. If you feel anxious at the thought of being confined to a room during therapy, then walking therapy could be for you.
